In the late 1980s, rock music felt polished to perfection.
From Van Halen and Ozzy Osbourne
to Bon Jovi,
everything was powerful, technical, and complete.

Then came another current.

Bands like Guns N' Roses brought back danger.
At the same time, something undefined was emerging−
Faith No More,
Jane's Addiction.

And then, suddenly, the air changed.

Nirvana appeared.

It didn’t feel like something entirely new.
It felt like something had come back.

The roughness.
The imperfection.
The raw impulse.

To me, it echoed the early sound of
The Clash
and The Damned.

Not the same.
But something overlapped.

I also remember how
Kurt Cobain and
Courtney Love
appeared to me.

They overlapped, in my mind, with
Sid Vicious and
Nancy Spungen.

Not as a comparison.
Just a feeling.

Even their presence−especially Courtney’s−
had something that felt familiar.
A fragile, unpolished intensity.

I listened to Hole a lot back then too.
It carried a different kind of reality.

Nirvana didn’t last long.

Like original punk,
it burned bright for a short time.

That wasn’t the intention.
But as a result, something remained untouched.

Unfiltered.
Unpolished.
Pure.

Maybe that’s why it still resonates.

ただ、そう感じた。

作り込まれていない危うさと美しさがあった。

当時はHoleもよく聴いた。
そこにはまた別のリアルがあった。

Nirvanaは長く続かなかった。

オリジナル・パンクのように、
短い期間で強く燃えた。

それは意図されたものではない。
しかし結果として、

削られていない何かが残った。

そのままの衝動。
そのままの音。

だからこそ、今も響くのかもしれない。
