Led Zeppelin were not only a rock band.
Led Zeppelin were not simply pioneers of hard rock.
They were a gateway.
They were a revolutionary group that fused sound, symbolism, mysticism, and spatial imagination into something far larger than conventional rock music.
Formed in 1968, their music went far beyond the framework of blues rock or hard rock that existed at the time.
Massive riffs.
Explosive rhythm sections.
Yet at the same time, folk music, psychedelia, Middle Eastern scales, mysticism, and occult imagery all coexisted naturally within their sound.
There was always something deeply theatrical about Led Zeppelin.
They did not simply “perform songs.”
They presented music as ritual, landscape, and atmosphere.
The electric guitar played with a violin bow.
Noise textures created through the theremin.
Long compositions shifting between silence and explosive intensity.
Those ideas would later echo through post-punk and gothic rock, especially in the way atmosphere and tension became central elements of sound design.
What first gave me a powerful shock was the live film The Song Remains the Same.
My older brother owned the VHS tape, and I still remember watching it for the first time.
At that age, I understood nothing about music theory, recording techniques, or the cultural background surrounding the band.
But I was completely overwhelmed by the performance, the enormous scale of the sound, and the strange mystical atmosphere surrounding everything.
I remember instinctively thinking:
“This is not ordinary rock music.”
Darkness filled with echoing guitar.
A gigantic stage presence.
Smoke and lights.
Endless improvisation unfolding like a trance.
It did not feel like a normal concert film.
It felt more like the document of a dream or some unknown ritual.
Jimmy Page’s guitar work went far beyond traditional rock guitar language.
The massive Les Paul distortion.
Electric guitar played with a violin bow.
Theremin-driven noise textures.
Huge spatial depth created through delay and reverb.
It felt less like solo performance and more like an attempt to create another world entirely through sound.
John Bonham’s drumming was equally overwhelming.
Enormous low end.
Physical weight.
Yet still full of groove and swing.
Bonham’s playing was not simply “powerful.”
It carried a primal energy that physically moved the body itself.
And then there was Robert Plant.
Blues sensuality.
Mythological imagery.
A shamanistic sense of ecstasy.
His voice possessed a mystical presence that transcended the role of a typical hard rock vocalist.
Throughout Led Zeppelin’s work, there was always a longing for some unknown world.
Ancient mythology.
Fantasy literature.
Occult symbolism.
Travel.
Spiritual imagination.
All of it flowed naturally into their music.
Looking back now, I can still feel Led Zeppelin’s influence deep within Velvet Ashes －
dramatic dynamics,
atmospheric guitar textures,
ritualistic atmosphere,
nocturnal space,
spiritual imagination.
Especially the idea that sound should not merely be “performed,” but should instead exist as atmosphere and physical space itself, is something I learned profoundly from Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin は1968年に結成されたイギリスのロック・バンドであり、
ハードロックの先駆者としてだけでなく、
音・象徴・神秘性・空間表現を結びつけた革新的な音楽家集団として位置づけられる存在である。
彼らは、単なる楽曲の演奏にとどまらず、
音楽を「儀式」や「風景」として提示した。
ヴァイオリンのボウによるエレクトリック・ギター演奏、
テルミンを用いたノイズ的表現、
そして静と動を行き来する構成は、
後のポストパンクやゴシック・ロックにおける
音響的・演出的発想の源流の一つとなった。
このバンドに強い衝撃を受けた最初のきっかけは、
兄が持っていたライブ映像作品
『The Song Remains the Same（永遠の歌）』のビデオだった。
当時まだ音楽理論や背景を理解していたわけではないが、
ステージ上の演奏、音の広がり、
そして独特の神秘的な雰囲気に圧倒され、
「これは普通のロックではない」
と直感的に感じたことをよく覚えている。
Led Zeppelin は、単なる「ハードロックの先駆者」ではなかった。
彼らは、音、神秘性、象徴性、空間表現、そして spiritual imagination を結びつけながら、rock music そのもののスケールを拡張した存在だったと思う。
