Velvet Ashes − Music, Philosophy and Production
Velvet Ashes is a project rooted in the spirit of darkwave, post-punk, industrial and gothic music,
documenting modern solitude and urban silence through sound.
Music is not simply entertainment.
It is a device for preserving memory −
a medium that allows lost emotions to return.
The work of Velvet Ashes does not tell glamorous stories.
It records the quiet emotions left behind in the corners of the night,
and the presence that continues to breathe within the shadows of the city.
Production Approach
The creation of Velvet Ashes begins in the recording studio
and continues in a personal production environment.
All stages of production −
from mixing to mixdown and mastering −
are handled by KEI,
who is responsible for composition, guitar and overall production.
This workflow is a deliberate choice.
It allows the atmosphere and identity of each piece
to remain consistent from the first recording
to the final master.
The goal is not efficiency,
but cohesion.
Equipment
The main instruments and tools used in production include:
Guitars
Fender Stratocaster
Gibson Les Paul Standard
Effects
BOSS ME-10
Cry Baby Wah Pedal
Volume Controller Pedal
Digital Audio Workstations
Cubase
Mixcraft Pro
Video Editing
VLLO
These tools were not chosen for prestige.
They were chosen because they have proven reliable over time.
Visual Production
The visual work of Velvet Ashes is created with the same philosophy as the music −
to express the boundary between reality and memory.
Filming often takes place inside a studio environment,
where mirrors are used to create layered reflections,
and footage of clouds, buildings and city landscapes
is combined to produce a sense of duality and distance.
In recent releases,
video production was entrusted to an external creator, yunki,
marking a new direction for the project.
However, relying solely on AI-generated visuals removes the physical presence of the performers.
For that reason, future works will increasingly combine real studio footage
with digital imagery,
bringing the human body back into the visual narrative.
Influences
Velvet Ashes is influenced not by a single genre,
but by the spirit of several musical eras.
Key influences include:
Bauhaus
The Cure
Siouxsie and the Banshees
The Clash
David Bowie
Public Image Ltd.
Sex Pistols
The Velvet Underground
These artists represent not just a sound,
but an attitude.
Closing
Velvet Ashes does not attempt to recreate the past.
It exists to document how we live with memory,
loss,
and silence
in the present moment.
As a sound that continues to resonate
in the night.
