Specimenは1980年に結成されたイギリスのバンドであり、ロンドンの伝説的クラブ「Batcave」と深く結びついた存在として、ゴシック文化の視覚的イメージを形作るうえで重要な役割を果たした。
彼らの音楽は、グラムロック、パンク、ダークな演劇性を混ぜ合わせたものであり、単なるバンド・サウンドというよりも、ファッション、身体表現、ステージ演出を含めた総合的なパフォーマンスとして成立していた。
